North Rankin A platform when completed
in 1983 was the world's largest gas production platform. The accommodation
had bed spaces for 220 persons during the offshore construction phase and
this has now been reduced for normal operations by conversion of some
double bunks to single beds. This is by far the largest offshore quarters
in Australia. The accommodation complex was constructed onshore at
Geraldton WA as three separate modules. The helideck/services module was
mated to one accommodation module onshore for a combined heavy lift of
approximately 1200 tonne. The remaining accommodation module weighed 650
tonne.
Jackson Lane Pty Ltd was appointed as a
sub consultant to DHP Consultants for both the preliminary and detail
architectural design of accommodation and helideck modules. Peter Lane was
nominated as project design co-ordinator in the early design stages and
was ultimately seconded to Woodside to act as their client representative
during the detail design, construction and offshore hook-up and
commissioning phases.
The project was completed on time and
within budget and while now almost 20 years old it remains in excellent
condition.
