Jackson
Lane Pty Ltd was engaged by Mobil Oil Australia Limited for preliminary
and detailed design of a 1,700 sq. m blast resistant central control
building to become the control centre for all refinery process and utility
units. As design project
managers we were responsible for all architectural and engineering
disciplines and our scope included procurement of long lead items, site
inspection and construction contract administration.
The project scope was extended to include a central amenities
building for refinery operations personnel and a striking entry foyer to
link the new building to the existing Main Administration Building.
Significant work has been done on the production of 3D CAD
visualisation studies of the control building interior to assure plant
operators that specific design requirements have been incorporated to
their satisfaction.
The control building includes a central console room from which all
process units are monitored and an electrical equipment room to house
instrumentation cabinets and power supplies. The HVAC system
incorporates a complex control and shut down system which is interfaced
with the fire and gas detection systems to isolate the building envelope
in the event of external contamination or fire in the process area.
